  • Render tab: turn on experimental
  • Object material tab: settings/geometry = Displacement only
  • Modifier tab: add subsurf, set it to adaptive
  • Material node: image texture -> Displacement / height -> Material output / Displacement
  • Image texture / color can also drive ColorRamp -> Shader Base Color
